How to wash a baby sling?

It is recommended to wash a sling before the first use. Thanks to it, the sling is softer, stretches more and is easier to tighten during tying. After the first wash slings tend to shrink of about 406%, that’s why all Luna Dream slings are a bit longer than the size says. Washing slings, in addition to keeping them clean, has another advantage – it corrects fibers arrangement, which ensures the sling perfect condition for many years.

Most of slings can be washed in a washing machine, but there are some exceptions you should bear in mind. Always check the label for detailed information.

Washing slings with various composition

Cotton: 100% cotton slings can be washed in a washing machine in 40oC. We recommend washing slings with similar fabrics and colors, e.g. towels. It allows you to avoid the risk of damaging sling fibers. Don’t use any softening or whitening agents. You can use a delicate washing liquid for baby clothes.

Linen/bamboo viscose: slings with these additives can be washed just like 100% cotton slings.

Alpaca wool: as one of very few manufacturers, we offer machine-washable alpaca wool. Thanks to it, you can wash such sling in a washing machine in 30oC without any softening or whitening agents.

Merino wool/silk/cashmere: slings with these additives must be always hand washed. As a detergent, you can use a delicate liquid for wool/silk. The slings should be washed in the lukewarm water (about 30oC). First, you should soak the sling for about 20-40 minutes, then try to gently wash it. After that, change the water and gently rinse it. Try not to mangle the sling but dry it, e.g. by pressing the water out with a paper towel.

Drying slings

You should dry slings spread flat. Avoid wrinkles, in some slings they can cause linear marks. You can also dry slings by hanging them on door J. Ironing slings isn’t necessary, but you can do it if necessary. While ironing, pay attention to avoid too high temperature that can overheat the fibers. The best way to do it is to iron the wet sling and use a lot of steam.

We do not recommend drying any kind of slings by exposing to sun.
